Arguably one of the most appealing soccer matches to ever took place at Gillette Stadium, the Brazil vs Portugal encounter did not disappoint. The fans, over 62,000 strong, welcomed the opportunity to witness the like of Neymar, Pato, Meireles and Nani (to name a few) practice their craft. Legends Pele and Eusebio, Patriots owner Robert Kraft certainly enhanced the atmosphere with their presence.
As for the match itself, the two sides did not disappoint. Without the services of C. Ronaldo (did not make the trip), the Portuguese squad gave the overwhelmingly pro-Brazil crowd a scare when they scored early off a defensive mistake by Maicon. However, the ever confident, young Brazilian squad under the helm of Luis Felipe Scolari kept their cool, and with goals from thiago Silva, Neymar and Jo, ensured that the Brazilians fans would not go home disappointed.
Although this match was a “friendly” encounter, we all know there is no such thing when these two meet. It was a great evening of soccer, and while the Portuguese national team might have left with some questions to answer; the future is very promising for this young Brazilian squad ahead of their hosting of the World Cup next year.
