The 2014 post-season schedule was announced on Tuesday by Major League Soccer. The playoffs will get underway on October 29 and 30 with the first Conference Knockout round, while this year’s MLS Cup final is set to take place on Sunday, December 7 at the site of the finalist with the best regular-season record.
The league office has announced the playoffs format will remain at 10 teams with the top five in points from each conference at the end of the regular season. The 4th and 5th seeded teams will play a single elimination game, and the winner will advance to the Conference Semifinals and face the 1st seeded team in the conference. The Conference Semifinals and the Conference Championships will be decided by a two-game, aggregate-goal format.
