Boston, MASS – The MLS’ disciplinary committee suspended and fined New England Revolution defender Chris Tierney for his tackle on Sebastien Le Toux in the 90th minute of his club’s victory over the Philadelphia Union last week at Gillette Stadium.
The committee called Tierney’s tackle a “reckless challenge that endangered the safety of his opponent”. Consequently, Tierney has been suspended by the league for one game and received and undisclosed fine.
The suspension came just one day prior to the match between his club and the Portland Timbers. The Revolution will be without two of its top defenders tomorrow night as Andrew Farrell, the MLS’ first overall draft pick this year is already out with a left knee contusion.
Earlier today, the Revolution recalled defender Bilal Duckett from the Rochester Rhinos, the club’s USL affiliate. Duckett Joined the team in Portland and will return to the Rhinos immediately after the match.
