The New England Revolution snapped their six games winless streak with a convincing 2-0 victory over the visiting Chicago Fire on Saturday evening at Gillette Stadium with 15,775 fans in attendance.
After a scoreless first half, New England pressured Chicago heavily right out of the break. The Revs got rewarded three minutes into the second half when Diego Fagundez cleverly launched a right footed shot from outside the box to the top right past a helpless Jon Busch.
Fadundez, who was making his 100th appearances in the MLS, was right in the middle of the action again two minutes later when Charlie Davies’ header doubled the lead for the hosts. Fagundez was credited with the assist on the goal.
The goal was Davies’ sixth of the regular season; he has scored two goals in the past three games for New England. Fagundez garnered his second goal in as many games for the hosts.
Chicago suffered their third straight loss as they remain at the bottom of the Eastern Conference table with 14 points.
Next, New England will travel to the nation’s capital to face D.C. United next Saturday. Chicago, meanwhile, will face D.C. as well in the following weekend.
