In what is expected to be their first game after the 2014 FIFA World Cup, the United States men’s national team is slated to face the Czech Republic on Sept. 3 in its capital city Prague, announced the US Soccer federation on Monday.
“While we are focused on preparing for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, we must always look ahead and therefore we are thrilled to get this match against the Czech Republic,” said U.S. head coach Jurgen Klinsmann. “Historically, they have a very good team, and they are going to be preparing for a huge challenge against the Netherlands in their opening game of qualifying for the European Championships, so we expect this to be a tough match and another good benchmark for our team.”
The U.S., who played Czech Republic in three occasions, will be seeking its first ever win over the 30th ranked country. The Czechs barely missed out on the upcoming World Cup after finishing third in group plays behind Italy and Denmark. They hold a 3-0-0 all-time record against team USA, with the last outing being a 4-2 victory for the Europeans in the weeks leading to the 2010 World Cup.
While they won’t be in Brazil this Summer, the Czechs will host this match as they prepare to welcome Netherlands on Sept. 9 for group A action in qualifying for the 2016 European Cup.
Meanwhile, the Americans have been matched with Germany, Ghana and Portugal in group G for the FIFA World Cup.
